The Economy of Antarcticland
Antarcticland was founded on a free economic system – that is to say a system that is transparent, competitive but above all independent.
There are various sectors that are potentially profitable, but at the moment the majority of the economy is based on tourism, activities devoted to the defence and safeguarding of the environment (flora and fauna) and the development of services. Although Antarcticland is rich in natural resources (minerals, hydrocarbons, gas etc) the Government’s primary objective is the protection of the natural habitat.
The economic guidelines are planned by the governments on an annual and multiannual basis.
The Government of Antarcticland, as already stated, considers investment into the safeguarding of the environment to be priority, along with investment into the development of the tourism sector with active participation by private individuals. For this reason the Minister of Finance, in accordance with the Minister of the Environment and the Minister of Tourism and with the supervision of the Regent, has decided to market the “Antarcticland” brand in such a way that even the important resource of tourism can contribute significantly to the economic growth of the State.
The Government also supports collaboration with the private sector, the public sector and Non-Profit organisations, which is recognised as necessary in order to procure benefits for our citizens.
All activity carried out in Antarcticland, however, must respect the environment. Our territory is rich in economic opportunity, coupled with a low and equal system of taxation; the Government’s fiscal policy is inspired by the principles of development, simplification and economic liberalism. Individuals and businesses won’t be taxed directly; rather an indirect tax will be placed on what they consume, or the services they use.
Foreign investment is therefore very welcome and can be very easily repatriated due to this favourable fiscal system.
A large part of Antarcticland’s revenue will still come from donations from businesses and other private institutions, other financial contributions and the sale of stamps, gadgets, books, studies and services to citizens. Added to this will be the income earned through the newly formed and thriving tourist industry.
To further encourage exchange and commercial activity, the Antarcticland Chamber of Commerce is now in its constitutional phase. This will allow the development of business, and forge links between citizens and other companies from around the world.
The currency used is Antarcticland is the Antarctic (ART) which has a fixed rate of exchange with the Euro (1 Antarctic = 1 Euro), although other major currencies will also be accepted and exchanged, including the US Dollar, the British Pound Sterling, the Japanese Yen and the Russian Ruble.
The constitution of the Bank of Antarcticland is also nearing completion. The Bank of Antarcticland will manage the regulation of all money in circulation, the fixing of official interest rates and the issue of coins and banknotes.
One of the Financial Authorities main objectives will be the maintenance of an efficient level of consumption, alongside a reduced rate of inflation.
The organisation of the economic system is regulated by the Ministry of Finance. The Minister of Finance S.E. Fabrizio Zamperi is a member of the Grand Council of Knights and is responsible for all economic and financial activity, including the fiscal administration of the State of Antarcticland.
